Non-Traditional Interview Outfit

Why Culottes Are . . .Cool

Culottes are cool because they fall right in between casual and dressed up. You can literally dress them up or down or anywhere in between. I went on an interview and wanted to be professional but show my personality and style as well. Sneakers, to an interview you ask? Yes, I wore sneakers to an interview. In this case, I felt it was okay to wear something non-traditional. I believe that it is important to show your personality and style during an interview. Paired with culottes and a simple black blazer made for an easy Fit Femme look that showed my character but remained professional.

Here’s 8 LCM Tips for Interview Style

1. (Before the interview) Ask if There is a Company Dress Code.

This will give you a gage as to how the people you’re meeting will be dressed. Knowing that info allows you to decide how much you want to fit in, and how much you want to stand out, creating a perfectly blended outfit.

2. Choose 2-3 Outfits the Night Before the Interview.

A favorite. A backup, and a backup for the backup.

3. Wear Fabric That Does Not Wrinkle Easily.

Wrinkles drive me crazy sometimes. And during an interview, there is typically a lot of sitting and standing. Wearing a fabric that doesn’t wrinkle easily will help you stay looking and feeling sharp.

4. Wear The Least Amount of Layers.

I’ve made this mistake before. And boy, between having on layers of clothing plus the nerves of meeting new people, it gets hot quick! The last thing you want to be worried about is sweaty pits.

5. Toned Down Lip Color.

I am a sucker for a bold lip. But on an interview, since it’s mostly talking, people will be looking at your face and mouth all day! And you don’t want to be worried about reapplying or having lipstick teeth. Lately, I like to stick with Fenty Beauty Gloss Bomb lip gloss or some Kiehls Lip Balm (Mango Flavor) for the simplicity. Plus they both taste good.

6. Wear Your Hair How You Feel The Most Confident.

This is always a topic of discussion for women, especially women of color with natural hair textures. If you feel most powerful and assertive with your hair pulled back in a neat bun, wear that. But if you feel your best rocking a big curl fro, then so be it! Again, be yourself. You don’t want to work some place that doesn’t accept how your hair naturally grows out of your head. Just saying.

7. Don’t Stress It. Wear the Jewelry.

Again, it’s better to wear jewelry that is not distracting in the interview, however showing your personality and style is important and should always be considered by YOU!

8. Be You. Dress You. Wear who you are.

Don’t be afraid to show your personality in your style. You want to naturally fit into a company. Otherwise you will be faking it daily. Of course, be considerate of the companies dress code, but also remember to think of you and why they want you to be apart of their team in the first place!
